Description

The introduction of metal tools is taken by archaeologists as the beginnning of a new era in human history. A fascinating story of how tools which are used today have been developed by a long process of gradual cumulative improvement from much simpler and less effecient implements of wood, stone, bone, bronze or iron, deviced centuries, and sometimes hundreds of centuries ago by our rude ancestors or ape-like precursors.

V Gordon Childe was a remarkable man who is considered the father of modern archaeology who specialised in the study of European prehistory. A vocal socialist, Childe accepted the socio-economic theory of Marxism and was an early, though unorthodox, proponent of Marxist archaeology. Childe was the author of several well-known books on the subject of archaeology and prehistory, including The Dawn of European Civilization and What Happened in History.
