The Book State and Social Responsibility of Corporate in India is based on doctoral research undertaken by the author in Delhi and NCR. It aims to contextualise corporate social responsibility in India within the political economy of the country through an in-depth study of CSR initiatives undertaken by select companies. This book attempts to trace the emergence of CSR with in the political economy of the state.It elaborates on how the state gradually handed over its responsibility to the corporate and corporate has emerged as economic and social power within the neoliberal policies of the state. The study looks into the current CSR practices in Indian companies to have the understanding of CSR in India. It further elaborates the business case of the company for its CSR initiatives and the involvement of employees and beneficiaries in implementation of CSR and the emergence of NGOs as implementing partner. The study takes a look at the communication strategy adopted by the companies in communicating their CSR to the community. It also discusses the decision making process in identifying the areas and funds for CSR implementation. The book discusses the rationale behind the CSR initiative of these companies in order to describe how CSR initiatives are implemented by them, and forwards an analytical presentation of the trends in CSR practices amongst the corporate in India.
